Citizenship Day

Citizenship Day

We started the Summer Term with our regular Citizenship Day. Everyone wore blue to remind us of our role in creating a safe and welcoming space within our school and our commitment to anti-bullying. Each class completed activities to remind us of our role as a global citizen.

Reception

In Reception, we spent the morning revisiting our 'DASP Caterpillars' and how we could be the best citizen possible. We came up with a list of things that we could and then had a go at carrying some of this things out. For example, we were 'considerate' by going around the school and picking up any litter that we could find.  We were 'caring' by taking care of our chicks and cleaning out their box.  We were 'co-operative' by helping each other complete an obstacle course in the outdoor area.

In the afternoon, we focused on anti-bullying. Miss Padfield and Mrs Trent acted out some scenarios and we had to yell out 'stop' when we saw something happening that made us feel sad. We looked at the 'high 5' bullying campaign which helped us understand what to do if we saw bullying taking place or if we were ever a victim of bullying.

Year 1

In Year 1, we began the day by learning about how we are similar and different to people across the world. We focused on 'food' as this is our half termly topic. We looked at 2 children - one child from Mexico and one child from India and how the food they eat and where they get it from compares to ours. In the afternoon, we focused on the DASP Caring Caterpillars and discussed each caterpillar in detail and what all the 'c' words meant within our classroom and school. We focused on the caterpillar 'co-operation' and practiced playing some fun, 'good' choice games that we could play with our friends at break and lunch. We played the games: hidden treasure, duck duck goose, what's the time Mr Wolf and Granny's footsteps. What an exciting day!!
Year 2

To begin the day, we explored the book 'If the World Were a Village' which presents the world as a village of just 100 people. We discovered that life in other countries is often very different from our own but that there are lots of similarities too! We used the colourful pictures to inspire some art work of our own by drawing an imaginary village that we would like to live in!

In the afternoon, we focused on anti-bullying and friendship. We watched a story about two cats, Anna and Digby, who were great friends and found out what happened when Stripy the bee wanted to join in their games. We discovered that it's okay to have more than one best friend, in fact the more the merrier! Finally, we looked at what makes a good friend and we made and decorated some friendship tokens to use in the classroom.
