Citizenship Day 2017

Citizenship Day 2017

We started the school year with our regular Citizenship Day. Children came to school dressed in blue to signify their commitment to Anti-Bullying. Each class took part in lessons that emphasised the importance of being a good citizen both in school and in the wider world.
Find out what each class got up to below:

Reception Class

Although it was only their second day at school, Reception class each completed a shield project to share things that were special to them. They drew a picture to show their special place, special people, special memory and special object.

Reception class also spent time introducing their class charter and discussing the DASP caterpillars. To show that the children agreed with the class charter, they each 'signed' it with a decorated hand print.
Year 1

Year 1 looked at the UN Convention on the rights of the child and then came up with their own class charter. We also each completed our shield project where the children wrote and drew things that were special to them, including special people, special places and special objects.

Year 3

Year 3 thought about their Rights in school; what should children be allowed to have and do in school? Alongside this, we explored the essential Responsibilities that every child needs to take on board so that all children get these rights. We used these Rights and Responsibilities to form our class charter. All children in the class signed the charter. Here’s to a fair and respectful year!

Also, we also revisited our Growth Mindset learning and discussed the importance of the brain needing water, food, sleep, exercise and of course challenge! We linked this to our core value of Perseverance.

In the afternoon, we reminded ourselves of what bullying is, types of bullying and what to do if we or someone else where being bullied.

Year 4
Year 4 thought about their Rights and Responsibilities as the oldest children in the school. We made bookmarks to remind us of these and created our Class Charter. We also revisited our Growth Mindset learning and discussed the importance of the Learning Pit. We linked this to our core value of Perseverance.
In the afternoon, we listened to the story of "The hurt boy and the birds". The story describes a child who is being bullied but finds release and safety by talking to the birds and asking them to carry the worries away. We made our own Worry Birds that we can use if we feel worried and would like to talk to an adult.
