Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival

This year, we have decided to help people in our local community for harvest. We will be working with the Dorchester Food Bank to support families in need in our area.

Each class had a different focus for this year's service.  Reception have spent time learning about all the different foods that are harvested for us. They have been thinking about how different our lives would be if we didn’t have our favourite foods.  They painted a picture of the food they would miss the most!
Year 1  had been exploring the list of items required by the Food Bank and thinking about all the meals that the parcel could provide for others in need.

Year 2 had been investigating the food that is grown in our local area. Who knew there was so much on our doorstep?

Year 3 had been looking into food waste. With so many people struggling to feed themselves, can we really afford to be wasteful?

Year 4 shared some more information about the Dorchester food bank.  They spoke about how it can help and support others and also told us that we could all help by donating too!
The service was finished beautifully with a prayer said by one child from each year group.

A big thank you to everyone who has donated food for us to take to Dorchester food bank! You really are making a difference!
Year 4 Visit to the Dorchester Food Bank

Year 4 were invited to visit the Dorchester Food Bank, based at the Dorford Centre in Dorchester. We took along the generous donations from our Frome Valley community and saw what happened to all the food that has been donated.
Rosemary Hardwicke talked to the children about how it must feel to have no food or to be worrying about where your next meal comes from. She explained how vital the Dorchester Food Bank has become for so many families, including some in Crossways.
